Share This Event ROCK PAPER ROCK PRESENTS: A.A. BONDY / ELVIS PERKINS IN DEARLAND
Two amazing artists in one night! Birmingham native, A.A. BONDY(Scott Bondy of Verbena) returns to Birmingham in support of his new album "When the Devil's Loose"(to be released Sept. 1st on Fat Possum Records). The former Verbena frontman leaves behind the rock crunch of his former band for bluesy folk songs about damnation and salvation. It ends up somewhere between Bob Dylan and Ryan Adams, wrapped in flannel shirts and muddied boots. Elvis Perkins is no stranger to Bottletree but most recently wowed fans when he opened for Bon Iver at Workplay in June. Elvis Perkins (born February 9, 1976) is a folk-rock singer-songwriter and the son of actor Anthony Perkins(from the movie Psycho). Perkins' father was well known Elvis Presley aficionado and thus named his son Elvis. Doors at 8pm / Show starts at 9pm 18 and up Tickets are $15

Share This Event SECRET HISTORY: TIMES NEW VIKING / THE AXEMEN / NIGHTMARE WATERFALL
In an age when music has no value, this is a declaration of love to a band that made me believe music can still mean everything to some people; that some people are still driven to be in a band for no other reason than to make music for its own reward. Three oddballs from the middle of nowhere have somehow proved themselves to be sonic adventurers as important as the Velvets, Huskers and Hawtin before them whilst writing melodies of which Wilson, Webb and Wonder would be proud. The new record Born Again Revisited came amidst talk of less of their legendary "pop songs from Ohio". More collages, more mood pieces, "more weirdness"... In places it has all of those things but it might also be their most cohesive full length yet. Recorded onto VHS tape as they further explored what can be achieved sonically, they enlisted the help of "soundman/good dude" Cooper Crain and set about making their fourth album in as many years. Early show! Times New Viking play at 7:00 PM / Tickets $10. THIS SHOW IS ALL AGES.

Share This Event Raquy & the Cavemen / Devyani Dance Troupe
Raquy and the Cavemen allow the listener to experience the musical cultures from The Middle East and Egypt and fuse them with Liron Peled's hard rock drumming background. The name Cavemen is appropriate due to the rawness of the beats, and there is also a timeless property to the music that makes it impossible to dislike. The whole experience of the music takes you on a journey to the roots of Middle Eastern drumming and as soon as that kemenche starts flowing the trip goes deeper. Its sound is like a close stare into the eyes and soul of the Middle Eastern culture that lives inside the music. Raquy brings forth the experience of an ancient culture straight to the stage for everyone to reflect, react and rotate to. $13 adv / $15 day of show! 18 and up

Share This Event DEAN & COMPANY SHOW TAPING!
In 1980, a locally produced, shoestring-budget operation known as “Dean and Company” appeared on television screens throughout the Birmingham area. Matriarch Daisy Dean, daughter Dana (rhymes with “Hannah”) Dean, and granddaughter Deanie Dean featured an assortment of tap dancers, 9-year-old karate kids breaking boards in half with their feet, singers, a trained rabbit, ballet dancers, and a trio of puppets often up to no good. The program was a crude mix of “Captain Kangaroo” and “The Ted Mack Amateur Hour.” Dean and Company” remains local television’s reigning program, since “The Country Boy Eddy Show” was put out to pasture. “Dean and Company” is still vibrant enough to appear every Monday evening at 7:30 on Channel 4, for viewers lucky enough to be in the Bright House Network cable market. Taping for Dean & Company will run from 10am until 4pm.

Share This Event SECRET HISTORY PRESENTS: Bottletree's 3rd Anniversary Show w/ WHITE DENIM and THE GRENADINES!
$1 Pints: Terrapin Brown IPA and Terrapin Rye Pale Ale!!!! When a band's first album is unpredictable enough to invoke comparisons with artists as wildly diverse as hardcore innovators the Minutemen and professorial idiosyncrasy of Randy Newman, then you can reasonably assume its been made by people who care about music. Lots of it. Jazz, punk, funk, country, acid rock, even piano ballads – all these labels have been used, accurately, to describe White Denim. Their second record is more problematic though. It has to sound like them. Fits; the title is both a knowingly bad pun and a reference to the odd tantrum endured in its creation- manages just that. Recorded and produced by the band in their infamous studio/trailer, Fits is more coherent than debut Workout Holiday, yet sacrifices none of its imagination. *We'll have drawings for prizes! Grand prize getting into shows free for one year! Tickets are $10 / Ages 18+ / Doors at 8pm.

Share This Event SECRET HISTORY PRESENTS: J. TILLMAN (FLEET FOXES)
Perhaps now would be a good spot for a bit of back story, or 'biographical information'. JT moved to Seattle in 2004 after dropping out college where he was studying god-knows-what. Upon moving there he found a job working at a bakery, where he was allowed to record at night before his 4:30AM shift began. This led to a cassette that maybe 20 people heard, one of whom was Seattle legend Damien Jurado. Damien brought Tillman on tour about a year later, where every night he wowed audiences into exclaiming things like, 'Who is this weird mumbly kid' and/or 'Get off the stage.' Tillman would continue to tour through the US and Europe regardless of 'audiences', 'interest' and 'total lack of promotion or booking agencies'. In late 2007/2008 (ish) Tillman signed with Western Vinyl in the US and Bella Union in the UK and, in 2009, released his least favorite record in his catalog, 'Vacilando Territory Blues'. The following year is kind of a blur. Doors at 8pm / Ages 18 and up / $10/12 tickets.
