Arts4Kids - Year of the Artist - Michael Jackson

Arts4Kids (ages 6-12) Workshop: Michael Jackson was a dancer, singer-songwriter, musician, and philanthropist. Jackson popularized a number of dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. This workshop will cover songwriting skills and dance as well as giving back to the community. We will be partnering with Black History Month celebrations, which will be hosting the Michael Jackson Wii competition directly after our workshop. Kingsport Renaissance Center room 302, 1 p.m.-3 p.m., $10.

Arts4Kids (ages 6-12) Workshop: Uta Hagen was a German-born American actress and drama teacher and won the Tony award three times. Students in this workshop will learn Uta Hagen's acting techniques such as how they should identify the character they play with feelings and circumstances from their (the actor's) own life, using her book, Respect for Acting, as a reference. Kingsport Renaissance Center Theatre, 1 p.m.-3 p.m., $10.

Cocktails in Paradise & Silent Auction Fundraiser

Please join us for a Fun and Fabulous Cocktail Party and Silent Auction, Margaritaville Style, on Friday, April 27 from 6-9 p.m. at the Kingsport Renaissance Center on the Second Floor. Wine, cocktails, non-alcoholic summer beverages plus heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served. Silent auction items may include dining packages, vacation get-aways, rounds of golf, gift baskets, jewelry and art. Dress is Margaritaville casual. Tickets are $30 per person in advance or $35 each at the door.

Arts4Kids (ages 6-12) Workshop: Georgia O'Keefe is one of the most compelling American artist of the 20th Century. Her paintings represent the beginnings of a new American art free from the irony and cynicism of the late 20th Century. Studying and recreating her landscapes, cityscapes and still lifes, students will learn her art techniques using oil paints, pastels and charcoal.
