The Morning Benders are an indie band from Berkeley, California. The band consists of Julian Harmon, Tim Or, and Chris Chu.

In 2008, they released their debut album Talking Through Tin Cans on +1 Records. The band has toured in support of Grizzly Bear (fall 2009), The Kooks and Death Cab for Cutie (summer 2008), Ra Ra Riot (fall 2008), and has also played with Yo La Tengo, MGMT, Grand Archives, Yeasayer, Two Gallants, The Rosebuds, Au Revoir Simone, We Are Scientists, and White Rabbits.

In December 2008, iTunes deemed Talking Through Tin Cans the best indie/alternative album of 2008. Earlier that year, they also received the honor of "Editor's Pick".

Weedeater is a sludge metal band that formed in Wilmington, North Carolina during the year 1997 with members from the recently defunct Buzzov•en. The band has released three full length albums. In April 2007, the band signed on to the Southern Lord record label.

For a band that named its forthcoming Capitol Records debut album Mind Chaos, the collective thinking on modern dance-rockers Hockey is already crystal-clear: this is a band set for a worldwide breakout this year. Hockey played four hotly-anticipated gigs at the famed South By Southwest music festival in 2009, following a series of downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn shows that stoked a chorus of on-line cheers and a notice in Paste Magazine's 10 New Artists to Watch in 2009. Formed in Los Angeles five years ago by founders Ben Grubin, lead singer, and Jeremy "Jerm" Reynolds on bass, Hockey is now based in Portland, Oregon as a quartet with Brian White on guitar, and Anthony Stassi on drums.

It's difficult to find much information, if any at all, on Chris Staples if you don't know where to look. As modest as they come, Chris is not new to the spotlight. Once the frontman for 238, and later his solo project Discover America, his career that has lasted for more than a decade makes him a well seasoned veteran.... Chris is on tour in support of his 2004 release 'Blackest Hair, Bluest Eyes'. In 2008, Matthew self-released The Fire EP, an eight song songwriter-distinctive collection recorded in thirty hours for $1,000. The record quickly caught the attention of Birmingham's Live 100.5 radio station, and, in a sense, brought Matthew back to those lonesome bunk bed nights. A guitar and a room. Honest, underdone, a doubting-Thomas authenticity and, yes, palpably melodic. "Pain and secrets," he calls the record. This show is for ages 18 and up. Tickets for this show are $8. Vice Records' KIng Khan and the Shrines are a Berlin-based, "psychedelic soul big band" fronted by wild man,King Khan, who's performed twice with "BBQ" (aka Mark Sultan) here at BottleTree. The THE SENSATIONAL SHRINES' line-up includes Ron Streeter (live-percussionist of Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Al Jarreau and other Soul-Legends), with a percussion and horn section outfitted by cross-cultural mash-up of german, french and canadians clad in a tattered shroud of rhine-stone-studded soul-thunder.

Red Sparowes is a Los Angeles based instrumental group known for its epic, heavy and sprawling sounds heard over the course of three full length albums -- At The Soundless Dawn (2005) and Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun (2006) both on Neurot Recordings and the forthcoming Sargent House release The Fear Is Excruciating, But Therein Lies The Answer (2010). The band has also issued three split discs and the Aphorisms EP (digital-only 2008, 12" 2009). Red Sparowes consists of current and former members of Isis, Halifax Pier, Pleasure Forever, Angel Hair and The VSS.

When Phil from Dead Oceans (home of Phosphorescent / Bowerbirds / Califone / Dirty Projectors) first introduced me to Citay he simply said, "Get ready for a wall of guitars." Not exactly what I envisioned for a 'psych rock band'.

Founded in 2004, Citay began as a studio project by Ezra Feinberg. Feinberg worked closely with renowned producer Tim Green (Comets On Fire, Sleater-Kinney, The Melvins) on the debut record, which was met with critical praise. Citay soon evolved into a full-fledged eight-piece band whose potency moved beyond the studio and into the live arena. They've toured with the likes of Vetiver, Howlin' Rain, and The Fucking Champs and shared the stage with like-minded space travelers such as Six Organs of Admittance, Danava and Yo La Tengo.

Indiana's Murder by Death layers the vocal sounds of an old saloon with the haunting strings of an Hungarian folk dance and the hard driving rhythms of pure rock n' roll, producing what Stuff magazine has called "lush, orchestrated songs," somehow simultaneously reminiscent of Johnny Cash and Radiohead. Added to that thick and intriguing sound are a series of dark and ironic lyrics, combining the mood and tone of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds with the narrative force of the Decemberists or a short story by Nathanial Hawthorne. Adam Turla fills out these sometimes frightening, sometimes beautiful lyrics by conjuring up a cast of character voices, allowing the songs to speak with the force of the characters themselves, and providing the listener with a sense of ensemble unique in rock music.

For the first time in his life, Brother Ali has been enjoying some day-to-day stability. Gone is the turbulent marriage to his first wife, homelessness, and the associated drama—all of which Ali openly documented on his last LP, The Undisputed Truth.

Continuing the tradition of Ali’s previous albums, 'Us' is produced entirely by long time partner Ant (Atmosphere, Felt) who provides enchanting mixtures of lush strings, and haunting choirs with the grinding pulse of funk-inspired synth bass and talk box.

The Beach House you're about to meet isn't the same you may remember from before. Lives have been shuffled, tangled and re-aligned.

When Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally returned home to Baltimore last Winter, they were worn thin from touring and travel. They packed up their lives and settled into a converted church in upstate New York with producer Chris Coady. For a month they continued the birthing process, sweating and pushing out sounds inside a cocoon of their very own weaving.

Quasi was formed in Portland OR in '93 by Sam Coomes & Janet Weiss. Throughout this time they have also toured &/or recorded either individually or collectively with SleaterKinney, Elliott Smith, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Built to Spill, Bright Eyes, Heatmiser, the Go Betweens, Pink Mountain, Blues Goblins, The Takeovers, Jandek, numerous other less recognizable names. Prior to Quasi, SC was in the San Francisco band Donner Party (c.'83'88) & both SC & JW were in the Portland power trio Motorgoat (c.'90'92). Joanna Bolme (Jicks, The Minders, Calamity Jane) joined the band in c.'06. JW & JB are still members of Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks. SC runs the online branch of Exiled Records. Quasi is still in the new, gentrified Portland.
