Valentine Saloon; Royal Court of China; Rock City Angels
Whenever we flip on the ABUSE BOX nowadays, we're immediately inundated with flash images, disinformation, and jive propaganda, carefully honed by teams of well-paid weasels, designed to lull us all into a dark and lazy, lower state of consciousness. In this "American Idol" culture, there's proof -everywhere we turn- that any random, obedient, charisma-free, willing, hand-job can be made-over, propped up, and shoved into our consciousness by saturation-marketing all day long, until even serious adults end up having to make references to them as "stars". They infiltrate our consciousness. I'm not proud to have had to become this hyper-conscious of Justin Timberlake or Pink or Fifty Cent-let alone, so repeatedly inflicted with them, and these non-stop, 'round the clock updates about who they're fucking, and their shitty music, that I end up feelin' resentful about it...AFFECTED, by these vapid little lap-dancing mousketeers!

Share This Event Ott w/ Bluetech
Ott was doomed to be a teenager in the cultural wasteland that was the mid-1980's provincial England. After a brief period wandering aimlessly through the hairsprayed deserts of New Romanticism and poodle-rock he found refuge in the warm, inviting sounds of Scientist, King Tubby, LKJ, and Prince Far-I and the effortless grace of European experimentalists Neu! and Kraftwerk. Here he stayed until he felt it was safe to pop his head up again.

Share This Event The Jesus Lizard
Some 10 years after they called it a day, the glorious noise rock clusterfuck they call the Jesus Lizard have reconvened for a series of shows. Yep, all of 'em: the classic lineup of David Yow, Duane Denison, David Wm. Sims, and Mac McNeilly will hit the road on what the band's label Touch and Go calls a "fleeting reunion." To put it bluntly (or perhaps merely state the obvious), The Jesus Lizard were the greatest live band of the last decade of the 20th century.

Share This Event Handsome Furs w/ special guests DRI & The Cinnamon Band
Handsome Furs are not a message band and they are not political, but Handsome Furs are a message band and they are political. The juxtaposition of cold, metronomic, electronic beats, courtesy of Alexei Perry, with the jagged, dissonant and frail, broken or breaking, guitars of Dan Boeckner portray what it is to be a human being at the bottom of the 21st century. It underlines the confusion you feel as your best friends are conveyed to you via a series of ones and zeros passing through lines and cables and microwaves; the same confusion felt witnessing the pure, wholesome thrill of a band of musicians pouring their hearts out on stage, through someone’s cell phone as pixelated streaming video; the profound and bitter frustration of your long-distance relationship with the world up against a burning, alcohol-soaked sunrise as you admit some things you never thought you would; your constant feelings of inadequacy intertwined with the omnipotence modern technology grants us all.

Torche & Harvey Milk
What is most endearing about the history of Harvey Milk is to see where their fans are on the globe (I recently met one from Antwerp, Belgium!), and also to see how fervent they are in the love of the band even though much of it wasn't exhibited during their career. If you were lucky enough to see them when they were around, I'm sure you understand when I say they were unquestionably the best band on the planet the night you'd see Harvey Milk. Hopefully, this collection of tracks will shed some light on that fact. Enter Torche, the four-pronged Floridian Riff Colossus that has steamrolled its way across the international underground. The glorious half-hour of blissed-out power-grooves, triumphant vocal harmonies and cosmic resonance within was variously hailed as “stoner pop,” “thunder rock,” and “doom pop,” but a consensus was quickly reached within the Fourth Estate: Both the underground and mainstream press had their hands halfway down their pants just thinking about listening to Torche.

First things first; bands can and should be important. I remember the first time I listened to Needle in the Hay, Eleanor Rigby, Hallelujah; these were Moments. Real Moments in my life proving to me that music is a true Art form capable of bringing both heartbreak and perspective. The music these bands/artists created captured something about the human experience and put it on display with a frailty so intimate that one could begin to use the word "damaged" in a good way; Damaged like a pair of well-worn hands.

Share This Event Radney Foster And The Confessions & Friends
Radney Foster started his career as a songwriter, then found commercial success and critical acclaim as part of the duo Foster & Lloyd, and finally embarked on a solo career in 1991 that centered on his literate approach to country songwriting. Foster was born in Del Rio, TX, and took up the guitar at age 12. He began performing small-club gigs while attending the University of the South, a liberal arts college in Sewanee, TN, and took leave from school to try his luck in Nashville. In 1985, he signed with the MTM publishing firm as a staff songwriter, and soon struck up a partnership with Bill Lloyd, who joined the company two months later. Their "Since I Found You" became a Top Ten hit for the Sweethearts of the Rodeo, and on the strength of their demo tape RCA signed them as recording artists. Foster & Lloyd recorded three albums from 1987-1990, and landed a series of Top Ten singles in addition to complimentary reviews.

The term 'Cowboy Mouth' has been used in the poetry of Shakespeare and Bob Dylan as well as a play by Patti Smith and Sam Shepard. Usually meaning one with a loud and raucous voice, it describes the band well. With over 2000 concerts under their belt and many years of reviews lauding their live show, there is still one quote which best captures their show..... "...on a bad night they'll tear the roof off the joint and on a good night, they'll save your soul."

With our music, and music that we popularize, we try to reach out and remind people that, when taken out of the hands of a parasite, music is still a great lead into a democratic atmosphere of chaos, where moments of great freedom and where great friends could be found. And that in the world of rapidly dissolving authentic cultures, soul-searching through the music is something that connects you with the most authentic thing there - your savage heart. When one door closes, another one opens. This couldn’t be truer for musician James Hart, who spent nearly a decade recording and touring as the frontman of Orange County band 18 Visions. After their breakup in early 2007, Hart quickly redirected his creative energy and honed his talent into a singular vision that fully represents his individual skill and ideas. Never losing momentum, Hart landed a label deal with Island/Def Jam and began working almost immediately with songwriter Zac Maloy on what would become Burn Halo’s charismatic self-titled debut.
