Whenever we flip on the ABUSE BOX nowadays, we're immediately inundated with flash images, disinformation, and jive propaganda, carefully honed by teams of well-paid weasels, designed to lull us all into a dark and lazy, lower state of consciousness. In this "American Idol" culture, there's proof -everywhere we turn- that any random, obedient, charisma-free, willing, hand-job can be made-over, propped up, and shoved into our consciousness by saturation-marketing all day long, until even serious adults end up having to make references to them as "stars". They infiltrate our consciousness. I'm not proud to have had to become this hyper-conscious of Justin Timberlake or Pink or Fifty Cent-let alone, so repeatedly inflicted with them, and these non-stop, 'round the clock updates about who they're fucking, and their shitty music, that I end up feelin' resentful about it...AFFECTED, by these vapid little lap-dancing mousketeers!

Ott was doomed to be a teenager in the cultural wasteland that was the mid-1980's provincial England. After a brief period wandering aimlessly through the hairsprayed deserts of New Romanticism and poodle-rock he found refuge in the warm, inviting sounds of Scientist, King Tubby, LKJ, and Prince Far-I and the effortless grace of European experimentalists Neu! and Kraftwerk. Here he stayed until he felt it was safe to pop his head up again.

Some 10 years after they called it a day, the glorious noise rock clusterfuck they call the Jesus Lizard have reconvened for a series of shows. Yep, all of 'em: the classic lineup of David Yow, Duane Denison, David Wm. Sims, and Mac McNeilly will hit the road on what the band's label Touch and Go calls a "fleeting reunion." To put it bluntly (or perhaps merely state the obvious), The Jesus Lizard were the greatest live band of the last decade of the 20th century.

With our music, and music that we popularize, we try to reach out and remind people that, when taken out of the hands of a parasite, music is still a great lead into a democratic atmosphere of chaos, where moments of great freedom and where great friends could be found.
