AFRO: Since the group's formation in fall 2009, AFRO has been combining their fascination with jazz, funk, rock and other traditional styles with their love and passion for free form improvisation. In addition to a collection of ever evolving original compositions, and covers ranging from Frank Zappa to The Meters to Dave Brubeck, their sound truly leaves no genre left behind. Consisting of three music majors (Kaitlyn Connor/Adam Mullis/Michael Toman) and a recording industry major (Blake Gallant), their lives are truly immersed in music. Playing throughout the southeast, AFRO continues to provide a unique shows for each and every audience; they regularly incorporate new covers and never repeat the same set twice. AFRO aims for nothing more than to MAKE you get down.
SMOOTH DIALECTS:
Smooth Dialects is a group of highly trained musicians who love, live and breathe what they do. A mixture of funk, reggae, soul, jazz, blues, and world music that makes you get down, “shake yo groove thang and make the soul feel good.”
Maria Sable, daughter of conductor Vakhtang Jordania, is a classically trained pianist who's smooth but powerful voice keeps your soul begging for more. Josh Sable, Smooth Dialects' very own guitar virtuoso, lays down such a soulful palette of tone one couldn't help but dance. Ryan Crabtree,
a Chattanooga native, is a music major at UTC combining classical technique with jazz theory to fill the pocket. John Rose, another music major at UTC, puts the smooth in Smooth Dialects with his harmonic genius behind the keys. Chris Smith proves that last doesn't mean least proving that percussion can be just as lyrical as the rest of the band by laying down a groove so heavy you can't help but feel it all over.
